The Joys of Daylily Gardening

Hello Daylily Friends,

I almost lost thousands of seeds and perhaps many plants in my Greenhouse. On Thursday afternoon, at about 4:oo p.m., I went to the Greenhouse. I thought it was odd that it was about 95 degrees and only one fan was operating. So, I checked the fan but it did not work. So, I called my friend Jeff who works for Atlas Greenhouse and Jeff suggested that I replace the Thermostat. So, I did it. I felt so sure that I replaced the Thermostat correctly, but still the fan did not work. Then Jeff game more instructions as to how to repair my fan problem. However, not ever having been an electrician I was at a loss to understand Jeff's instructions. So, I called my friend Tommy Bell who is a retired electrician and who lives just down the road. Thankfully, Tommy immediately came over and he worked with Jeff until about 8:00 p.m. and finally the entire system was repaired. Without Jeff working "overtime" by taking our calls at his house, and without my friend Tommy Bell, I would have had a daylily disaster. But, alas, there was no disaster and all is well. By the way, could you repair this thermostat?

Saturday morning our Sunday School Class came over, and altogether, we had 63 Friends come to visit. We also had our Senior Pastor, Rev. Sam Matthews and his wife Bobbie with us, along with our Associate Pastor, Rev. Cyndi McDonald. We all met together our on our deck and then we went through the "Brunch Line." We had breakfast together. What a treat on the last day of Spring. Even though this is the last day of Spring, the temeprature still went up to 97 Georgia degrees. It is August in the springtime. Notwithstanding the hot temperatures we all walked through the gardens and everyone seemed to enjoy the visit. I explained how I took the diploid INDIAN GIVER, and converted it to TET. INDIAN GIVER. Then I showed the result in LYDIA'S REGAL ROBE. What a marvelous improvement over INDIAN GIVER. If you did not purchase LYDIA'S REGAL ROBER then you are in for a treat. When you do see this daylily you will be amazed. It is not just goregous, it is 37" tall with serious branching and bud count.

Well, in my post on June 15, 2009, I reported that my Seedling 7-233 won "Best in the Show" at our Daylily Show at the Cobb Galleria Center. The picture that I showed when I gave the report was a picture that I took last year. I don't know if the picture was taken inside the Greenhouse or outside in the main garden. So, I have been trying to get a new "outside" picture for my 2010 Spring Catalogue. Well, Thursday morning I was successful with a new picture which I am now showing. You can clearly see the green throat and the green edge on the petals. I hope to introudce Seedling 7-233 and I do not have a name. What would you call this green edged beauty? Thanks for your advice.
