Every Day is a "New Day in the Daylily Garden"!

Good Afternoon Daylily Friends,

The tumultuous euphoria over Diana's Seedling 1-304 continues unabated, but alas, we must move to a new day in the daylily garden. This morning I had a nice bloom on a plant that has conversions upon conversions in its parentage. It is Seedling 1-302, and here is the parentage: [(Tet. Connie Burton x ((Grace 578 Seedling x Tet. Connie Burton) x Tet. (Last Midnight x Peppermint Delight))]. There are four conversions in the cross, including Tet. Siloam Ralph Henry which is a parent in Grace 578 Seedling. I really like Seedling 1-302 because it is 32" tall. I would note that most seedlings using Tet. Connie Burton as a parent are S-H-O-R-T. Not so with Seedling 1-302. I like the array of pink colors and I like the round form that is clearly beckoning that it be noticed. The gorgeous green throat is a real bonus. I look forward to using Seedling 1-302.

Another seedling that I had to bloom this morning is a cross between these parents: (White as Snow x (Grace 578 Seedling x Judy Farquhar)). This is truly an exceptional daylily because it has 5-way branching! Let me repeat: 5-way branching. It's height is 31 inches, it has 17 buds, and two nice proliferations. Now these are very impressive statistics. In fact, you might even see them as being significant on the well known "Stamile Scale." I like the cream color as well as the yellow edge, and then, again, there is that beautiful green throat. The fact is that those who love daylilies particularly love an alluring, new, yellow daylily. Here is a picture.

I would also add that WHITE AS SNOW, one of the parents in Seedling 1-309, is a full dormant. Having this dormancy its parentage should Seedling 1-309 a tough plant in cold weather.

  2. Bluegrass Memories is a wonderful, very fertile, daylily. I should see my many seedlings bloom this month from it.

  3. Hi Josh,
I'm hopeful that I can make some seeds to eventually see seedlings from BLUEGRASS MEMORIES. Things are really doing well in the Greenhouse!
