Diana's Compost; March 31, 2010

Hello Daylily Friends,

This morning I was especially surprised to see my wife Diana Rae working in her compost bin. I bought the bin for Diana for her birthday 3 years ago; her birthday is on April 16. Diana has really become an "organic gardener." She got the idea several years ago at the Mid-Winter Symposium in Chattanooga, Tennessee. There was a speaker who gave a very informative talk about creating compost, and Diana paid close attention to what he taught. Diana is good at making compost. As I said, I saw her working in her compost bin, and she was actually removing fully mature compost. I'm showing a picture of Diana working hard at this garden task.

Diana uses almost anything in her tumbler, including kitchen scraps and left overs, horse manure, and grass and leaves. I'm showing a picture of her finished product, and you might notice the worms in her hand. I asked her what she was going to do with her compost, and she announced that it was going into the soil where she will be planting her tomatoes. Speaking of her tomatoes, they are growing very large. Today she also worked on moving these from little small containers into one-gallon pots. It is good to see such an important garden task task done so well. Indeed, Diana has become an "expert" on soil compost.
