Diana's Seedling 1-304

Good Morning Daylily Friends,

What a wonderful morning I have had in the Greenhouse. I went out there and there were many blooms. So many that I had to try to settle myself into this new enviroment. One of the first new blooms was from Diana's cross. The actual cross is as follows: [Viva Pinata x (Sherry Candy x Tet. Out of the Blue)]. What is so nice about the bloom is the intricate color patterns in the eye, and the combination of a yellow self and what I have come to call a "blue eye." I now identify Diana's cross as Seedling 1-304. It is 35" tall, it has 3-way branching, a 5 1/2" flower, and a nice proliferation. There are 20 buds. When I came back to the house Diana asked me about her seedling, but I just told her that she would have to judge it for herself. I didn't want to act too excited, but in hindsight, I should have shown the excitement that I felt. Seeing Seedling 1-304 just causes a leap of joy in the heart. Our good friend David Arthur came over and we all agreed that Diana has done very well. I saved the pollen from 1-304, and you would never guess what Diana did with her new daylily. She crossed it with TET. DOUBLE OLD IVORY, and I am showing a picture.

What do you think of Diana's cross between her Seedling 1-304 and TET. DOUBLE OLD IVORY?

You may recall that I have been trying to convert MIMOSA UMBRELLA. Well I'm down to my last treated plant, and it has thrown a "new fan" coming up from the bottom of the plant. The new fan is soft, and it therefore is not a tetraploid. I would ordinarily cut the center of the plant to better expose the growing tip, but I am concerned about the new fan. I am of the opinion that if I cut the treated area I will lose the plant, but then again, because of the new fan, and based on experience, I believe that I will lose the plant anyway. Still, I do see new growth coming from the treated area. I still have hope.

  1. Wow, Diana has herself one fantastic seedling. I love that. It makes me excited about my crosses with VIVA PINATA. You are going to have to watch her. No wonder she is starting to label her seedlings....she is afraid that they will slip over into your seedling rows. =)

  3. WOW! Congratulate Diana for me...just beautiful bloom...and I think she is inspired...I can SO imagine that color and pattern on a double form...
Sam and I hope to be able to stop by your garden on Sunday afternoon after the convention on our way home....I saw on the 'open garden' list that you are welcoming people then....is this correct?

  4. Oh my goodness, MOM!!!! There is a song that comes to mind when I see your success...."I'm comin' out...I want the world to know...I'm gonna let it show". First of all, there are SEVEN different colors/shades in the eye of your first cross. It is a rainbow of beauty. Second of all, the I-304 cross is just a ruffled explosion! I love it! Watch out Dad...she's got it!

  5. My Good Friends,
I know when I've been "zapped"! Diana has accomplished what I have always wanted to do, and she has height, branching, bud count, a yellow self, an incredible eye, and more and more and more. Be assured that I intend to use Diana's 1-304 throughout the summer. As to my friend, Linda, we are excited about your coming visit. Looking forward to seeing you at the Convention and then in our garden.
