More News from the Gardener.

Hello Daylily Friends,

So far, today is the best day in the new garden for 2011 because my good friend David Arthur and I began to plant seedlings from the Greenhouse into the outside soil. We planted four (4) rows in one bed. In all, we planted 200 seedlings. All of these 200 seedlings were "red" seedlings using Stamile's TALLEDEGA, Kirchhoff's BARBARA MANDRELL, Larry's red, unintroduced seedling, and my own dormant red seedling which has TET. UNCLE BRYAN as a parent. These are truly incredible red parents, and I'm looking for a home run. I plan to cover four of my outside rows with plastic so that they will withstand the winter, and not be exposed to frost. I'm really beginning to see 2011 in the near future!

Today I also started to treat one of my plants: ROSABELLE VAN VALKENBURGH. I must admit that I have not treated a plant that I let go without water as long as I did this time. The last time that ROSABELLE was near any water was on August 31, 2010. Today, when I treated ROSABELLE, that is, on September 30, 2010, she was really dry. Very dry. I would think that ROSABELLE would readily accept the coltricine. I will just have to wait and see. I'm not sure how much coltricine that I will apply since she is so dry. Maybe just twice to three times a day for three days. I will just have to report how the matter progresses.

I must say that I am frustrated that I have not yet received "The Georgia Daylily" Journal. I want to read my article about my successful conversion effort. Can anybody out there who has received the Journal give me a report? Thanks.

Bill
