Tim Bell Visits; My New "Red Toothed" Seedling.

Hello Daylily Friends,

Tim Bell from Bell's Daylily Garden in Sycamore, Georgia, came to visit the Cobb County Daylily Society today.  We were fortunate that Tim's son, Jarred, also came with his dad.  They showed us their garden, and wow, they are doing such great work.  They brought 40 plants, and our club purchased them all.  In fact, I purchased the following Bell introductions: THANK YOU, LEMON ZEBRA, and SYCAMORE FRUIT PUNCH.  After our meeting we then had a really big lunch.  Oh it was so good.  I ate as much as I could.  Special thanks to Cynthia and Jack Rigsby for making the arrangements for the lunch.

Just to back up in time, when I got up this morning I went to the Greenhouse, and there were several new plants, and for the first time I think that I have an introduction.  It is Seedling 3-309, and one of the parents is my Seedling 11-266.  I adore this little red seedling.  It is 24" tall with 5-way branching, 26 buds, and a 4.4" flower.  Lots of teeth everywhere.  I'm showing both a picture of the flower and a picture of the branching.  I didn't take the picture until around 5:00 p.m. this evening after I had moved it from its one gallon bucket to a 3-gallon bucket.  I debated and debated about whether it should be moved, and then decided it was too valuable to just let it sit for another 4 months in a one gallon bucket.  Hope that you like Seedling 3-309.

Bill

  1. B,

Sorry I've been out of the loop on your blog lately. I was used to using your website as a means to log on to your blog. I had to update my favorites. So, this nice red toothy seedling....what are the parents? I like it a lot! Also nice to see that the Pink Stripes conversion plant #2 is throwing a scape. I hope the pollen is tet. It will be exciting to see your results. Hope all is well.

  2. Hi Paul. All is well. The parents are my own 11-266, and Kinnebrew's RANDY STEPHENS. I truly think that Plant #2 is a tet. If its not, you will probably hear me scream my disappointment all the way up there in Ohio.

By the way, I've missed your comments. I write but when there are no comments, I sometimes wonder if what I wrote was interesting.

The issue with Bobby Baxter is so sad. I have to think that his medical condition is responsible for his extremely poor and negative conduct. I don't know how long it will take to get all of this resolved, but it will get resolved.

  3. I too had to figure out another way to read the blog. Hope you get the website fixed soon. The red seedling looks great! Love the color and the white teeth. I believe you have an introduction in this one.

  4. Hi Bill,

WOW, what a red toothy seedling. You are really far ahead of most of us with your creations. Hope to see more.

  5. Hi Lee,

Thanks for the compliment. I was hoping for a large flower, but a small flower is fine, especially with the branching and bud count.

Thanks again for the rides in Iowa!

  7. Thanks Nikki. We were fortunate, however, that we were in St. Louis a week ago rather than this past week-end. That was quite a snow storm.

Tomorrow, that is, on Wednesday morning, I will again see a bloom on 3-309. The more that I think about it the more excited I become having a small red flower with the teeth there are on 3-309.

Really appreciated receiving your "Thank You" card. We appreciate being asked to come to St. Louis and meeting so many daylily friends.

Looking forward to seeing you in June!
